Last Rose of Summer

Last week I finally found some time to do a bit of yard work. Every year when the time comes to get ready for the first frost, it is sort of bittersweet. I love my yard. The gentleman who lived here, many years before us, called the yard his "mistress". I have always said that he planted so something was always in bloom. He did spend more time with his "mistress" than anyone else in town. We once even found an old article that was written about Dr. Zimmerman and his
"mistress". Just a thought...but if you died, wouldn't you leave a large sum of money to your mistress :) One of these day, while I'm digging away, I will not only come across one of Docs old "pipes" but also a tin can. Mark my word. It will happen. Although I love working in the yard during warmer weather, the cold weather means holiday parties, family time, sledding, skiing and snow days! But I still can't wait until next summer!
And now I leave you with the last rose of summer. Bloomed November 2, 2011.
