First we went and saw the one and only Allison Wilson who starred in White Christmas at Jacksonville Theater Guild. It was so cute seeing Lakin look back at Chris when Allison "kissed a boy". She leaned over to me after looking at Chris and said, "Oh no mom, Chris is going to be sooo mad at Allison". Next came The Nutcracker Ballet in Springfield, Lakin was in heaven. She absolutely loved it. I was a little worried because she is not particularly keen on the book. At the end, the book says that magic is the best part of Christmas and Lakin refuses to read that page because she insists (rightfully so) that Jesus is the best part (her Christian education must be paying off!). And the final show was at the Fabulous Fox and it was called Cirque Dreams Holidaze and boy what it fabulous! Everytime I looked at Lakin, she had the biggest smile on her face and Mark was even in awe at most of the acts! Lakin also really enjoyed the taxi rides (even though the ceiling didn't light up and the driver didn't ask her questions as would have like....I personally think she is watching too much Cash Cab with Papa Starkey).
Here is a picture of Lakin waiting for the show to start.

And poor Gage missed out on the fun stuff but he is getting into plenty adventures on his own and just starting to walk! He is also quick to sneak into the bathroom, if someone accidentally leaves the door open, to play in the "pool". He is mocking everything his big sister is doing and loves getting pulled around in her new bitty baby wagon that Santa brought for Barack and Ellie (Lakin's twins). He did get to enjoy the 2nd annual Christmas parade which was even better than last year!

Lakin was a little worried for a while. She told Mark what I got him for Christmas and worried for quite a while that she was going to be on the "naughty" list....but much to her relief, Santa was very good to her. When we went to see Santa in the mall she only wanted handcuffs.....and a stuffed horse (she only said that because he said...anything else?). I guess I should fill you in about the handcuffs so you don't get the wrong impression....
About a month ago, Lakin asked for pigtails in her hair, so I put them in her hair. When she came home from school, she no longer had her pigtails. This went on for about a week. Then one day she asked for 3 pigtails. So I did it and made it look as "normal" as possible and I did have to use one of my big hair ties because by this time I was thinking I was going to have to start buying hair ties in bulk. But once again, she came home with no pigtails. The day she asked for 4, using the "strong" hair ties, I couldn't take it anymore. I said, "Lakin, you have pigtails and pony tails in your hair everyday and after school there is none in your hair, how are they coming out?" She hesitated then responded, "Well.....at recess....I sit down and Lucas takes them out of my hair. We use them as handcuffs to play cops and robbers. I am going to ask Santa for real cuffs because the ponytail ties keep breaking!" So that is why she only wanted handcuffs.....and a horse for Christmas. The handcuffs haven't left her back pocket since! Mark even got a nice item to use this summer on the greens and Katie had 2 little turquoise-y blue boxes under the tree with her name on them. They both had many presents addressed to 'StarBrocks' that will soon be lake bound! It was so nice to spend a relaxing Christmas with family and friends.....the ones we love most.
As I write this...Mark is sitting by the fire reading, yes, reading (Tucker Max but at least he is reading something!), Lakin is playing her DS, and Gage is unraveling "his" roll of toilet paper. We found it easier to give him his own then he would stop unrolling ours.
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas...hope to keep on top of this blog more in the new year!
