Ending Out The Year

I am sure you noticed Gage's somber face on our Christmas card. He once again refused to smile for family pictures. But, as soon as I got out of the picture, he smiled.

Mark and I spent the first week of December in Cancun for a wonderful "business" getaway. We even had friends honeymooning at the same resort. We are so blessed to have such a special and supportive Nana, Grandma, Papa Starkey and Papa Butch that are always there when we need support and a good babysitter. While it was nice to have Gage understand that we are going far away and we will be back, it is sad to see them growing up so fast. I have noticed lately that I have to be careful with what I am saying and watching on TV because Lakin is always listening. I now be sure to turn the channel when the commercial with Sarah McLachlan singing with the sick animals comes on (she instantly cries) and I have totally blocked Hallmark channel. She sat down to watch A Dog Named Christmas and bawled the whole time. She wouldn't let me turn it off because sometime they were "happy cries." She also recently has an interest in bad words. She wants to know why some people say damn it is a bad word. "Mom, we drive over it and talk about it on the way to the lake, so why is it a bad word?"

Christmas flew by too with Lakin getting her karaoke machine and Gage his firetruck (although it has been totally ignored since he opened it). I wish I could say the same thing for the singing machine with the extra loud speaker. Lakin practices 24/7 (and maybe learning to stay on pitch a little) and wants to place an add for a guitarist and drummer. Mark got his GoPro Cam and me with my new Sorel boots....everyone was happy as can be.

We couldn't help but feel a little extra thankful this year for our health and safety and we all said a few extra prayers for those suffering and less fortunate. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and may you have a fabulous 2013.
